I am greatly honoured to have been given the opportunity to make some remarks in this edition of Betong District Council's website. I would like to record my deep appreciation to the Ministry of Environment and Public Health Sarawak for taking the lead to encourage all local authorities in Sarawak to establish their respective websites. This definitely contributes towards fulfilling the vision of an electronic government involving all local authorities in the state of Sarawak.
We are now entering an information age where information technology has been recognized as one of the most important element for an organization to remain competitive and resilient. The availability, accuracy and the relevancy of informations could have a profound effect on the survival and the sustainable growth of an organization.
As the service oriented organizations serving the public at large, local authorities are required to be more pro-active, receptive and competitive in the area of information technology. This could be achieved through the availability of all releven informations being displayed on a website like this. A higher level of customer satisfaction and confidence could also be attained through such facility. This website could also serve as a fast, effective and interactive communication channel between the customers and the policy markers.
